The worst part of putting in the helicoil to fix my sheared bolt problem was the part right before this picture.
Yup, I fished the helicoil tang out of the blind hole with a pair of toothpicks. Took about 20 very frustrating minutes of failing to lift the tang at all, or dropping it halfway up the hole. My magnetic pickup tool wouldn’t fit through the installed helicoil, and the only pair of tweezers I could find was too wide as well.
What are your favorite tools or techniques for getting a small piece of metal out of a narrow blind hole?

If u pu t a nail on the end of the magnet wouldn’t that become polarized and act as an extension of the magnet?

A straw maybe? Just as long as you don’ t swallow the tang. Great, now I’m thirsty

Straw on the end of a vacuum cleaner hose with some duct tape to hold it.

They do make tangless helicoils. But you need a special tool to install them.

I’ve also crafted electromagnets to accomplish similar goals. A bunch of wraps of wire around a thin piece of steel, coming from the car’s battery , plus a light bulb or something to add resistance to the circuit so you don’t set your hand on fire, or start welding, or something awful like that.
